Comfort Center

Scared, Anxious, or Afraid of the Dentist?

  • Can you only go to the dentist if they put you to sleep with medication that you don’t want to use?
  • Do you manage to go to the dentist but bring your dental anxiety with you to the dental chair?
  • Are there sounds, smells, or vibrations during treatment that make you uncomfortable?

The Comfort Center is the first of its kind in the state, and may be able to help if any of these situations apply to you.

Comfort Center practitioners use a variety of approaches to reduce anxiety and calm fears, including hypnosis. Often just a few appointments is all it takes.

It’s important to note that these appointments do not involve dental treatment – it’s all about helping make future dental appointments more comfortable.

Comfort Center practitioners may also be able to help with other related issues such as:

  • Bruxism (teeth grinding at night)
  • Smoking cessation
  • Gag reflex
  • Chronic pain
  • and other issues

The Comfort Center is sponsored by the UNC Dental Faculty Practice.
