Craniofacial Center / Geriatrics-Special Needs / Hospital Dentistry

The Dental Faculty Practice provides comprehensive general oral health services for persons with:

  • Cleft lip, cleft palate and other craniofacial conditions
  • Chronic health problems requiring hospital-based dental care
  • Older adults with special oral health care needs
  • Oral manifestations or problems related to systemic or psychological health problems

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Craniofacial Center (UNC CFC) consists of an interdisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to the care of the patient and family with cleft lip, cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies.

Experience has shown that these complex issues can best be managed by an interdisciplinary team of specialists who work together to create and update the patient’s health care plan. This team may include specialists in general dentistry, oral surgery, pediatrics, social work, speech-language pathology and more.

Individualized financial arrangements are available, and this program accepts payment from major medical, health and dental insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, Children’s Special Health Services and Vocational Rehabilitation.

For more information, visit their webpage and for appointments, contact the Patient Care Coordinator at (919) 537-3513.

The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic’s primary mission is to provide education for oral health personnel in the management and treatment of elderly and/or medically, physically or developmentally compromised patients.

Patients who many benefit from specialized treatment at the Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic include those with closed head injury, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and more.

The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic also delivers general dental services in the care of these patients as a part of the Dental Faculty Practice. Operating room procedures on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia are available.

Appointments are accepted on a referral basis. For more information, call (919) 537-3866.
